Just finished watching the British GP using the live timing service from the formula 1 website. This is the same data that the commentators see and is more or less live. It really gives you a sense of whats happening, well worth having. I was trying to find if there was an SDK or raw data feed so I could do some interesting enhancements such as an overlay on-top of the picture in media center, or show a constantly updating championship position as the race progresses…

Look at whats left of LH’s McLaren after a 200mph collision in Bahrain. But he walked away. Surely roadcars should have at least optional full safety harnesses ?
This was the shock headline on BBC breakfast news this morning. Question is, was it won or did ITV just want to get out of it, to spend more money on football? Bizarre decision by ITV since Hamilton fever would drive advertising revenues. More unfortunately its going from ITV just as they got their act together and actually did something with the franchise by exploiting ITV4 bandwidth for additional play and streaming feeds of Friday practice on the website.
The benefit is we’ll lose the poor commentary team (excluding Brundle and Blundell who undoubtedly transfer to the BBC) and hopefully get a better or at least less hysterical one. I hope BBC wil continue enhancing the web content ITV started and maybe use BBC HD for live playback and BBC4 for extra playbacks.
I was just looking for the YouTube video that is threatening to get Hamilton disqualified from his win in Japan and found this excellent clip of Massa vs Kubica, real wheel to wheel, pushing each other off track for corner after corner. Well worth a look for the 30 seconds it takes.

Unfortunately due to severe over exposure and repetition, the word Hamilton has officially been worn out in the UK. Stocks of the word Hamilton had been running low since early April, but were completely exhausted by an irresponsible review programme broadcast by ITV last Saturday afternoon. Its feared that the global supply of the word Hamilton may take years to recover, even with severe rationing in place, meanwhile overuse continues unabated. It is rumored that ITV have located and acquired a substantial stock of the word Hamilton in Hamilton, South Dakota, and this stock is to be used exclusively by Steve Ryder during commentary on this weekends US Grand Prix.
A spokesman for the Hamilton conservation fund said ‘the situation is very worrying, we could be looking at the complete extinction of the word Hamilton worldwide, and this may happen within this season. I urge Lewis to change his name before this happens, as the situation is grave.’
However we can all do our bit by reducing our Hamilton footprint, by not speaking his name unless absolutely necessary. If the general Hamilton output can be reduced then the word may survive albeit at a low level.
